AKRONMurder convictionAKRON: An Akron man has been convicted of killing his girlfriend’s brother.A Summit County jury on Tuesday deliberated less than an hour before convicting Terrence O. Minor Jr., 29, of aggravated murder, prosecutors said. He will be sentenced March 7 by Common Pleas Judge Tom Teodosio.Minor was convicted in the Sept. 18 shooting death of Demetrion Wilson, 20. Prosecutors say Minor drove to Day Street in Akron, intending to fight his girlfriend’s brother. When Minor arrived, he fired a gun over the roof of his car and struck Wilson in the chest. Wilson died at the hospital.Minor was arrested days later in Cleveland. He faces a mandatory life sentence with parole eligibility. He previously pleaded guilty to an illegal weapons charge.Rape chargeAKRON: A Youngstown man is accused of raping his girlfriend and holding her captive for more than 12 hours in her Akron home. Maurice Moore, 38, was being held in the Summit County Jail on charges of rape, assault, unlawful restraint and criminal damaging.He was arrested Saturday at the Grant Street home of a 35-year-old woman who accused him of breaking into her bedroom about 9 a.m. Friday and refusing to leave or allow her to leave.She told police she was punched and choked, and during a 15-hour time span was forced to have sexual intercourse. She was treated at Summa St. Thomas Hospital on Saturday.A report described Moore and the woman as being involved in a relationship.Police were called to the house about 1 p.m. Saturday. They said Moore ran out a back door and was arrested after a chase that covered about a mile. Store break-inAKRON: The suspect held onto his beer while struggling with an officer trying to arrest him Tuesday night after a break-in at a Massillon Road convenience store, police said.Steven Shanley, 29, was subdued and taken to the Summit County Jail, where he was being held on charges of breaking and entering and resisting arrest.According to a police report, another man was walking past the Convenient Food Mart, 199 Massillon Road, about 11:30 p.m. and noticed someone trying to break into the business through a front window. Police say the burglar ignored the witness’s warnings to leave and went into the store, taking a case of Bud Light beer and cigarettes.The witness called police, and officers arrived to find a man climbing out of a store window with the beer and cigarettes. He was taken to the county jail, where he will await sentencing.Prosecutors said the victim was a 15-year-old girl. Wood was remodeling a home next door to hers in October 2010.The incident occurred in an upstairs bedroom after Wood bought pizza and alcohol and shared it with the victim and other girls one evening, prosecutors said.The victim’s mother notified police when she noticed her daughter appeared to be drunk, prosecutors said.PORTAGE COUNTYFire injures threeAURORA: The investigation continues into a Wednesday morning fire that injured an Aurora woman and two of her rescuers. The fire in the 800 block of Parker Road was called in by a neighbor who is a firefighter in Bainbridge. The firefighter and an Aurora police officer suffered minor injuries while trying to rescue the woman, who suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation. Two other occupants of the home were not injured.
